What is included in a full body skin check?
A full body skin check is a comprehensive examination of your skin for suspicious moles, lesions and signs of skin cancer.
At The Mole Clinic, your skin check is performed by an Australian-registered doctor with additional training and a special interest in skin cancer medicine.
The appointment includes assessment of your skin cancer risk and a systematic examination of your skin. Dermoscopy is used where appropriate to examine individual lesions in greater detail.
If something requires further assessment, your doctor will explain the recommended next step. This may include monitoring, photography, biopsy or treatment depending on the clinical findings.

Is there a Medicare rebate for a skin check?
Eligible patients may receive a Medicare rebate for their consultation.
At The Mole Clinic, the current full fee for a Full Body Skin Cancer Check is $227.10, with a Medicare rebate of $87.10, leaving an out-of-pocket cost of $140 for eligible patients.

Does mole mapping cost more?
Yes. Mole mapping is a different service that combines a full body skin cancer check with digital imaging to document and monitor your skin over time.
At The Mole Clinic, Mole Mapping & Full Body Skin Cancer Check currently costs $312.10 before Medicare, with a Medicare rebate of $87.10, leaving an out-of-pocket cost of $225 for eligible patients.
Mole mapping may be particularly useful for selected patients with a large number of moles or where longitudinal monitoring is clinically appropriate.

Are biopsies included in the skin check fee?
No. A full body skin check is an assessment appointment. If your doctor identifies a lesion that requires a biopsy, this is a separate procedure and an additional fee may apply.
